Set high on a plateau in the heart of the Amathole Mountains, surrounded by the indigenous forests and the many waterfalls that flow under the tree canopy, the mystery of the name perpetuates until today. Some think the village was named after Captain Hogg, the commander of one of the British Frontiers Forts – Fort Michel built at the base of Tor Doone and others think the village is named after the three peaks that dominate the skyline – a geological feature known as a Hogsback.
The HISTORIC HOGSBACK INN formally established in 1880 is an attraction in itself as the oldest living historical site. On offer we have a variety of accommodation ~ 10 x comfortable hotel rooms, 6 x Riverside Suites and 3 x affordable self-catering units. Being the oldest accommodation establishment in Hogsback, we boast the original pub, the legendary Hogshead Tavern. Here you will find great wholesome country food, great staff and a cosy atmosphere. We are situated just off the main road, nestled in beautiful natural surroundings against the three peaks with our own little stream running through our gardens.
